In Mik-Shrok, Christian fiction for middle-grade readers written by Gloria Repp, Steve and Liz Bailey arrive at the small town of Koyalik, Alaska, with troubling questions. The veteran missionary who was supposed to meet them has disappeared. The year is 1950, and Alaska Territory is still a vast wilderness, unsettled and unexplored. Without a guide or an interpreter, Steve and Liz struggle to survive in the harsh new environment, praying for some kind of transportation.

A miracle in the form of several huskies and a dogsled frees Steve and Liz to travel. But their troubles are far from over. The Alaskan terrain is dangerous, and the hearts of its people often seem harder than the frozen earth. Will Steve and Liz ever be able to reach the Eskimos for Christ? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mik-Shrok I bought this book early for a birthday present and so it has not been read. However, BJU Press has always put out great quality books that my children and I enjoy. The excepts from some of their book that are in their reading curriculum have caused me to buy some of the books so that I could have the whole story.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mik-Shrok This was so enjoyable to read with my son (12 yrs old). He enjoyed it just as much as I did. The characters were relatable and my son loved it when the chapter Mikki came up. He was very anxious to know what chapter it would be to meet Mik-Shrok. We enjoyed getting to know "Mikki" and Steve and Liz. Their ministry was difficult but the book showed us that even when we go through difficult times God is always there to comfort us and strengthen us.
