How We Teach Spanish 1
Research-Proven Strategies
The Student Text and Teacher’s Edition reflect the best practices in the field of second language acquisition and align with the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages.
Communication and Comprehension
Lessons promote the development of long-term communication and comprehension skills by driving students to determine meaning through contextualized language study with an appropriate emphasis on form and structure rather than explicitly presenting grammar rules for memorization.
Three Modes of Communication
Throughout the text, students develop proficiency-building skills in all three modes of communication (interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational).
Integrated Performance Assessments
Chapters end with a suggested performance-based assessment that provides real-world scenarios for using the language. Each exam also includes an integrated performance assessment that can be used to assess student ability to use the language in spontaneous communicative exchanges.
Spanish 1 Educational Materials
Student Text and Teacher Edition
The Student Text takes an innovative and engaging approach to help students not only learn about Spanish, but learn to communicate in Spanish at an intermediate-low level. All chapters are thematically organized and present vocabulary and grammar in context. Everything, from the artwork to the activities, works together to develop students’ understanding of Spanish cultural products, practices, and perspectives. The Teacher’s Edition provides an overview of the text as well as practical suggestions for how to use the resources. Notes include teaching strategies, cultural information, lexical explanations, and connections to biblical worldview.
Sharing the Gospel
A primary goal for this course is helping students learn to present the gospel in a level-appropriate way. The “Para testificar mejor” feature at the end of each chapter helps students apply the communicative concepts to talking about the gospel. Students begin by comparing and contrasting the character and attributes of God and the character and attributes of human beings and work toward being able to share the gospel as presented in the book of Romans.
Cultural Studies
Each chapter includes two features that expand student familiarity with Spanish-speaking countries. These articles focus on the key principles that characterize those countries and the cultural practices within each country. Students are invited to discuss these principles and practices from a biblical worldview.
