Teach Science with a Biblical Worldview

BJU Press Science

Our vision for our science line is to inspire students to observe and investigate the natural world in order to analyze and evaluate scientific information and models from a biblical worldview while solving real-world problems.

Students will be able to develop solutions to real-world problems only with a thorough understanding and knowledge of the sciences, scientific principles, and laboratory skills.

BJU Press science courses include overviews of the work of science and foundational biblical themes that should shape a Christian’s understanding of the major issues in that field. We teach a three-element foundation framework of Christian ethics: biblical principles, biblical outcomes, and biblical motivations.

Throughout the BJU Press science program, we show students how scientists use models to explain, describe, and represent the world more accurately. We teach students about models to show that science is not a progression toward greater truth. It’s a quest for more workable models.

To properly prepare and equip students to understand and respond appropriately to dense scientific information, we fill our textbooks (particularly secondary) with opportunities to engage with informational texts on a high level. We also include introductions to the vocabulary needed and presentations of scientific diagrams that give students an opportunity to practice visual-analysis skills.

Materials

Student Edition

The Student Edition provides grade-appropriate information through text, diagrams, graphs, charts, and annotated photographs and illustrations. It introduces students to a scientific field with a solid biblical worldview foundation and a focus on real-world applications.

Teacher Edition

The Teacher Edition offers research-based strategies, teaching notes, and suggested activities to give teachers options for daily lessons. The strategies focus on explaining concepts to students by moving from concrete to abstract and by linking scientific concepts and processes with prior learning. The teacher editions, combined with the Student Edition, also include frequent and varied opportunities for pre-assessment and skill measurement. Additionally, the teacher editions include guidance for anticipating and overcoming common student misconceptions in science.

Student Activities & Lab Manuals

Each Student Activities or Lab Manual gives students opportunities to develop laboratory skills and apply what they have learned in real-world situations. Students will solidify their understanding of concepts by connecting the content with real-world problems. Activities and Lab Manuals differ among grades and include investigation, exploration, STEM, study guide, preview, reinforcement, enrichment, Bible Connection, technology, and expansion pages. Activities are available for grades 1–7. Lab Manuals are available for grades 8–12, excluding Health.

Why are Activities important?

Why are Lab Manuals important?

Activities Answer Keys & Teacher Lab Manuals (or Combination)

Secondary courses will contain an individual Teacher Lab Manual (grades 8–12) or Activities Answer Key (grade 7) or a combination of the Activities Answer Key with Teacher Lab Manual (grade 6).

Assessments

Assessments provide summative assessment opportunities to measure students’ knowledge and understanding of key concepts. The tests and quizzes include opportunities for students to infer information from images, and they assess students’ recall and higher-order thinking skills. An Assessments Answer Key is available for each grade.
