See how homeschoolers compare!

Are you interested in seeing how homeschoolers measure up to their peers in public school? A study conducted in 2008 by the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) and the National Home Education Research Institute (NHERI) presents a current snapshot of the modern homeschool family and compares the academic achievements of homeschoolers with those of their public school counterparts. Nearly 12,000 students across the nation participated in the research of Dr. Brian D. Ray of the National Home Education Research Institute. BJU Press Testing & Evaluation was one of several recognized testing services selected to participate in this study and encouraged each homeschool family using The Iowa Tests® during that period to be a part of Dr. Ray’s research.

The study reveals that homeschoolers consistently score higher than average on standardized tests, proving the effectiveness of homeschooling as an educational choice. Dr. Ray also compares some of the different approaches to homeschooling and the resulting achievement test scores. The study concludes that in spite of decades of change, homeschooling maintains its status as an excellent educational option for parents today.
