Write a poem! It can be free verse, haiku, rhyming—whatever you want. And it can be any shape and length you want—except that it should not be longer than two pages. Check the article and writing tips on our Cool Reads page for suggestions on writing poems. Then just print and fill out the contest entry form and send it to us with your submission and the regular entry fee of $3. Your submission should be postmarked no later than November 7. We’ll announce the winner in each category by the first week in December. The prize in each category is the novel Understood Betsy, featured in our “From the Bookshelf” section; and the winning selections will be featured in our showcase.

When you enter, be sure to mark your age category:
Ages 10–12
Ages 13–16
