A grateful mother.Starting at the beginning is challenging. I started at kindergarten with my family so the very basics have to be covered from scratch. Believe it or not...that's challenging. It's like building a house - you can't start picking out paint and carpet until you have planned out and firmly established the foundation, the supports, the layout...
This is especially challenging when you know a lot about the subjects you are trying to teach. You can't just start off where you are. You have to start off where they are and basically, they are a blank slate on these subjects.
I am so very grateful for BJU press. I'm using them for Bible Studies and Heritage studies. Believe it or not, starting to teach a Bible study for your own kids is a little intimidating. The subject matter is not all sunshine and roses - like you might see in a children's Bible stories book. I'm not saying that BJU Bible studies is all gloom and hellfire - far from it! Instead, they are teaching the actual lessons of the Bible and they don't turn away from the hard questions. The Teaching Guide is the most helpful guide I've ever seen. It provides the question prompts for me to ask and gently guide my kids to understanding the deeper concepts. It lays out the verses to memorize in a strategic way to teach the theme that week. Sometimes, the best verse to memorize might not be located in the passage you are studying. I wouldn't have thought to do that. The lessons are concise and thoughtful and I truly believe I am teaching my children something incredible in a way that they can understand - and one of my kids has a little bit of an auditory processing challenge. He understands these lessons perfectly. Do you know how much comfort it gives me to know that my special son understands exactly what he needs to? It's humbling and I am a grateful mother.

Bible Truth 1 Student Worktext ( 4th ed)I love to teach Bible, and the student's text reinforces the Bible..The student's text is definitely age appropriate for first graders. I love the application stories as well as the students can relate to same or similar situations as they play with friends at school, children in the neighborhood or other siblings. When you see the students applying the Bible truths to their lives, we know they are growing God's way. The Bible is God's word, and it will never change.
