Beyond the Night is a family film produced by Unusual Films that tells the true story of John and Bettie Dreisbach, a medical missionary couple in Africa. To them came the injured and the sick. The word soon spread across the desert, and their patients became a multitude. Above all, the Light of the World, Jesus Christ, was revealed by his faithful witness to people who dwelt in darkness. The courage and faith of this couple in the face of strong persecution will challenge the hearts of both young and old. Includes DVD bonus features. A resource for Bible and missions training. Suitable for upper elementary, teens, and adults.

Great MovieKnowing that this film is based upon a true story makes its message all the more compelling. One cannot help but be inspired by the godly example and gospel-centered approach to this missionary's ministry that this film portrays so well. And, one's heart cannot but be touched by its portrayal of the spiritual darkness in the country to which he ministered. The film presents a gospel message; can help to develop a burden for missions and educate the viewer on what it's like to be a missionary; and illustrates the proper role of charitable and compassionate acts (medical, etc.) in the ministry: a role that enhances the gospel and opportunities to present it, but by no means a substitute for it (as if doing acts of mercy alone - without the accompanying gospel - constitutes doing "kingdom work").

sebringsaraMy missionary coworker worked with Dr. Dreisbach in the 1960's in Bembereke, Benin. The film was to be part of his life story. We found it to be just a simple part of his story. Not to demean the principles brought forth by this man/film. He stood for right and truth and the gospel. Just a bit short on content to us.
