Binding Ties is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good toward the end As I was reading this play the first time, I almost put it down on the "discard" shelf because of the first few scenes that are filled with awkwardly presented exposition. Yet, I knew God wanted me to keep reading it. I was pleasantly surprised at how the tension built in the last few scenes. The pronunciation guide at the back is very helpful, and the handling of the Kali temple servants in the play (one of my earlier concerns when considering this script) was handled tastefully and can be presented on any stage--church or school. Recommendations: a) The first few scenes need to be reworked. b) If you will be presenting this in a multi-cultural community, a disclaimer may be necessary to indicate that this play represents the British Empire and India in the early 20th Century--not Great Britain of today nor the India of today. In fact, it could be said that Amy Carmichael played a role in the changing of British opinion and treatment of their Indian subjects.
