This Day in Baptist History II, a sequel to This Day in Baptist History, by David Cummins and Wayne Thompson is a collection of devotional readings, one for every day of the year, that focuses on giants of the faith, both great and small, well known and forgotten. These selections spotlight men and women whose lives challenge and inspire and whose testimonies have established a foundational understanding of what it means to be Baptist. Rich in Baptist history, doctrine, and theology, their stories reaffirm the Baptist distinctives for the present generation.

A DisappointmentWe used the previous book, "This Day In Baptist History, Vol. 1" for our family devotional time. We greatly enjoyed it as one child would read the Scripture reference and Dad would read the devotional book. The Scripture references were tied in with the devotionals and much was learned and enjoyed. The time was a most edifying one. However, it seems, (after 6 weeks) that this volume the authors tried to put in way too much information. One paragraph you are learning about one individual, the next someone else etc. It is most confusing to keep the whole shipload of information and actually LEARN and be blessed from the so-called devotional. The information is great, but the focus is COMPLETELY LOST in this volume. It really needs to be gone over, split into another year or perhaps used for a total of 3 years so that you could get real profit from this valuable information! This is a great reference work, but as a devotional??? It is an abysmal failure for THAT purpose. We'll do our own editing so that we can enjoy the history of Baptists - again! And, there is much to be desired with the grammar in this book as well. Run on sentences, and words that are on the graduate school level.
