Before attempting to install your system, you need to survey possible locations where you can successfully mount your dish.  Remember, your dish must have a clear, unobstructed view of the sky in the direction of our satellite (Intelsat Americas 5), which is located directly south of Dallas, TX, 22,300 miles above the equator.

Possible signal obstructions are trees, tree branches, leaves, power lines, and buildings. In some instances the signal is limited by geographical location, e.g., a location in a valley might be blocked by a mountain.

Your ability to clear an obstacle is based on the elevation for your location and height of that obstacle. Use the obstacle clearance calculator to find out the distance you need to be from an object in order to receive the signal. The diagrams below illustrate the principles of obstacle clearance:
