BJ LINC Technical Support — Peaking the Dish

Connect the dish to the receiver.
To simplify the pointing process, you want to be able to see the diagnostic screens from the receiver at the same time you are adjusting the dish.

Press the signal button on the remote control.
Acquire the signal.

Peak the signal.

  1. Stand at the side of the dish as to not block the signal with your body and adjust the LNB in one direction as long as you continue to see improvement in quality. Watch the LNB from the side of the dish. It should move an almost imperceptible amount each time. Signal strength is no longer important.
  2. When you reach the maximum quality by fine tuning the azimuth (left and right), fine tune the elevation (up and down) until you see maximum quality.
  3. With a wrench, carefully tighten down the dish mount starting with the 3 nuts on collar that slides on the pole. Watch the quality as you tighten the bolts to make sure it does not drop.
  4. Double check that the elevation is still peaked, then tighten down both nuts, one on each side of the AZ/EL bracket using a wrench.
  5. Stand again at the side of the dish as to not block the signal with your body and rotate the LNB 1 degree at a time in the proper direction. Rotate the LNB clockwise if you are west of Houston, TX, and counter-clockwise if you are east of Houston, TX.
  6. Keep rotating the LNB until the quality ceases to improve. Try to achieve a signal quality of 90 or above. This will help avoid signal interruptions. NOTE: When you stand in front of the dish the quality will go down because you are blocking the signal. Move to the side of the dish after each adjustment to see the true quality. Tighten the LNB mount.

Download the channels.

  1. Press OK and "Update Channels?" will appear.
  2. Press VOL- to select YES.
  3. Press OK to download and save the channels.
  4. Do not press any buttons until the download process is complete.
  5. Press MENU to clear out of all menu screens, and you should see programming within a few seconds or up to two hours.
