Site Survey | Precise Site Survey
Based on your general site survey, you probably already know where you want to mount your dish. The following steps will help you determine if this selection is a good one.
-
Take a compass to the site you have picked, and hold it flat in the palm of your hand.
Tip: Try to keep the compass away from any metal objects. They can cause inaccurate readings. -
Once the disc stops spinning, locate the tick mark on the compass that corresponds to the azimuth number for your location (see Appendix K in the Installation Guide or call 1.800.845.5731 for your azimuth). This is your precise direction to point the dish.
-
Raise your arm to the approximate elevation angle, and make sure there are no obstructions in the signal path.
-
Repeat this survey in several places on your property until you find the best mounting location.
Note: You can mount your dish on a pole in the ground, on your roof, on the side of your house, or on your patio. We recommend using a pole in the ground (allow 1-2 days for the concrete to harden).
