Strength -
0 / Quality - 0
- Verify that the
receiver is turned on (should not see the amber light).
- Verify that the
RG-6 COAX is connected to the LNB and to the receiver at the ‘LNB
IN’ terminal.
- If so, power the
receiver off, and unplug it from the electrical outlet. Wait 15 seconds,
plug it back in, and turn it on.
- If still 0/0, check
the DC output (see Checking the Cables).
Strength -
50s / Quality – 0
- It seems the equipment
is working just fine. Strength is a general indicator of the equipment's
ability to read signals.
- Verify the following
to see what may be causing difficulty in finding Quality:
- Verify that
you have a clear line of sight.
- Verify that
the pole is plumb (completely level).
- Verify that
the LNB is in the correct starting position (‘Up’ lined
up with seam in the LNB collar).
- Verify the
compass angle (azimuth). For accuracy, try tying a string to the
pole on which the dish is set and pulling that string in front of
the dish and over the compass at the azimuth reading for your location.
This straight line will represent the direction to point the dish.
- Verify that
the elevation is at the correct starting point for your location.
Strength -
50s / Quality - below 90
This indicates that
the dish is on Telstar 5 but that the dish is not peaked.
- Rotate the LNB
(clockwise if west of Houston, TX; counterclockwise if east of Houston,
TX).
- Make very small
adjustments left, right, up, or down.
- Rain, heavy clouds,
branches, etc., could prevent finding optimum Quality.
Message: E16/19
Service is scrambled
This message appears for up to 2 hours after locking on to the signal.
If the Strength & Quality are sufficient, leave the receiver on for
up to 2 hours.
Had the signal
but lost it after routing cable into house
You will most likely see Strength - 0, Quality - 0.
- Verify that the
RG-6 COAX cable is connected to the receiver at the “LNB IN”
terminal.
- Power the receiver
off and unplug it from the electrical outlet. Wait 15 seconds, plug
it back in, and turn it on.
- If still 0/0,
any one of the following could be the problem:
- Defective
RG-6 COAX cable
- Defective
grounding block
- Defective
in-line amplifier
- Defective
surge protector (or not made for satellite use)
- Since you
had good Strength & Quality before routing the cable, the problem
occurred somewhere in the routing process.
If you see Strength
- 50s, Quality - 0.
- Power the receiver
off, and unplug it from the electrical outlet. Wait 15 seconds, plug
it back in, and turn it on.
- Verify that the
dish has not moved (may need to apply hand pressure to the dish left,
right, up, or down to verify that the dish is in the correct location).
