How We Teach K5
Learning Phonics
BJU Press phonics teaches students to associate individual letters and sounds. Then, it shows them how to recognize phonics patterns through word families. This two-part approach prepares students to engage more easily with the words they will encounter. This program also builds familiarity with high-frequency words, or service words, which do not follow normal phonics rules.
Shaping Biblical Worldview
Worldview shaping begins early by encouraging students to apply the four key themes addressed throughout the course: (1) God is great, and God is good; (2) God created me and all things; (3) the Bible is God’s Word, and it is true; and (4) I learn in order to serve God and others.
Objectives Drive Learning

The teacher’s edition (six-volume set) guides the teacher in engaging the students in age and developmentally appropriate activities through 180 lessons. It includes instructions for activities and discussions covering science, social studies, handwriting, and phonics as well as teaching strategies and guidance for the 34 reading books.
